Let's Get Crafty: A DIY Creativity and Resourcefulness Workshop
This live streamed online workshop will lead participants in step-by-step hands on experiences that result in useful and creative items, made from everyday materials around your home. We focus on repurposing and upcycling of ordinary materials to create fun, useful, sustainable, and wearable craft items. The workshop projects will include: shoestring bracelets and keychains, embellished jeans and denim items, and melted crayon paperweights. Instructions for several additional projects will also be provided to participants. Presented by Linda Niehm, Professor and Director of Entrepreneurship and Retailing, Dept. of Apparel, Events & Hospitality Management; and Lauren Niehm, Senior in Product Development, Entrepreneurship minor, Apparel, Merchandising, & Design Program, Dept. of Apparel, Events & Hospitality Management

NOTE: Participants should collect the following items in advance of this workshop:

-Scissors, ruler, pen, pencil
-For shoestring bracelets and keychains: Miscellaneous standard length shoestrings, various colors of your choice, black and white are also fine. Can be new or clean used shoestrings. Need metal loop if you prefer to make the keychain version of this project.
-For embellished denim: Your choice of jeans, jean jacket, vest, tote bag….anything denim will do. You also will need miscellaneous embroidery floss—your choice of colors, and a large hand sewing needle—large eye to fit multiple strands of floss and a sturdy needle to work with denim.
-For melted crayon paperweights: Miscellaneous old broken/used crayons of any color, a large rock suitable for a paperweight—any type is fine, but smooth rocks tend to work better on this project.
